An article has just been posted in BEST FRIENDS NETWORK about our rescue. We were contacted shortly after the airing of our segment on NH Chronicle and asked if they could do a story on the "satos"! Check it out, we're excited about having this coverage and love the posting picture of "Spirit"!

2008 STATISTICS

41 have come to our rescue this year in such a short timeframe, can you help increase that number?

OUR PET OF THE WEEK

IVORY

IVORY"

Meet Ivory. This beautiful girl 2 1/2 year old golden lab is a joy and so loved by her foster family. Found sitting next to her sister who had been hit by a car and killed, at 3 months old she was skin and bones with no fur. Thanks to great vet care and a loving foster home, she's now a happy girl that loves to swim, hike, and don't forget her belly rub!!!

As you can see, she loves people, and children are her best friend...

Please scroll down to our Adoptable Pet List to read more about Ivory (and see 2 additional pictures) and the other dogs available at this time.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR RESCUE

The Second Chance Sato Rescue of Temple NH, is a growing group of dedicated individuals (would you like to join us?) in the Hillsborough County Area who have chosen to work exclusively with Second Chance Animal Rescue to find homes for "Sato's" (Puerto Rican slang for Street/Stray Dogs and pronounced "saw-toe") who are awaiting their "second chance".

Sato's tend to be mostly small to medium dogs, although you will find some of a larger size. Upon arrival, many are initially very shy and timid, but once they realize that life is good in New Hampshire and that they are no longer in jeopardy, their happy and true personalities surface as they settle in and begin to relax.

We are a NH-Non Profit organization licensed through the State of NH Department of Agriculture and are located in Temple, NH.

We are a "foster home" shelter, so all dogs in our care are living with families in the area which gives us the opportunity to best understand their personality within a home environment, allowing us to best match them with the proper family. Once a dog reaches our rescue, our foster home families and Director of Adoptions begin searching for the perfect match - a family who is "just right" and will give the pet a wonderful home. While waiting for their forever home, our dogs receive the best of care while in the 48 hour quarantine and with their foster familes.

All dogs have been spayed/neutered, and come fully vaccinated (DHLPP series, rabies, and bordatella), heartworm-tested based on age, and have been dewormed and on heartworm preventative. Each dog has been seen by a local veterinarian the day before making their journey to NH in compliance with NH Department of Agriculture regulations.

We work exclusively with Second Chance Animal Rescue located in Villalba, Puerto Rico to find homes for stray dogs they have rescued.

They are a no kill, non-profit organization founded to help improve the quality of life of the animals in Puerto Rico dedicated toward improving the basic care and safety of the animals. As members of The Puerto Rican Federation of Animal Protectors, they work in conjunction with other organizations to achieve their common goals to help those that can't help themselves.

Their Mission is dedicated to the safety and well being of the animals. They rescue animals that are neglected, abused, abandoned or unwanted by their owners. A typical rescue includes a trip to the veterinarian for a complete health check-up which includes vaccinations, worming, heartworm check and spay or neuter. If there is a more serious condition they go the extra mile. At S.C.A.R, they rehabilitate the physically and emotionally distressed soul and find a good home that meets the requirements of Second Chance Animal Rescue both within Puerto Rico and the United States.

Please visit their web site Second Chance Animal Rescue to gain a more detailed understanding of their rescue and see the dogs that are currently in their care and will soon be looking for homes.

ABOUT OUR DOGS & THE ADOPTION PROCESS

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of an Adoption Application. Please download and save this application to your computer (Microsoft Word format), fill out out, and email it back to us as an attachment to secondchancesatoadoptions@gmail.com.

Please be sure to complete all sections of the application including Vet phone numbers as a vet review is a critical step in the process.

Stephanie, our Director of Adoptions will review the application and contact you. Our main objective is to find the best suitable home for each pet. We do not operate on a first come, first served basis, we take pride in matching the desires of the families to the needs of each pooch, and therefore phone interviews are an important phase of the process.

Once approved, a time will be set to meet the dogs that have been identified as adoptable to your family. If there is a match that is acceptable to the family and the rescue, the adoption can then take place at our licensed location. Our detailed adoption contract will be signed at that time.

The Adoption Fee is $265.00 and is non-refundable, to be paid in cash or check (no credit cards accepted at this time). The majority of the adoption fee is sent back to Second Chance Animal Rescue in Puerto Rico so they can continue their work to rescue animals and get them the proper medical care so they can be adoped to loving families.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Being a new rescue, we can use help in many ways, and although financial support is certainly well received, our primary need is to build our pool of volunteers and foster families.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER FOSTERING?

This is an extremely rewarding part of the rescue program. By fostering, we give the dogs a chance to settle in a stable and quieter environment than they have been accustomed to. Foster families help us by caring for them until they are adopted, taking updated pictures for posting to our site, and understanding their personalities so we can find the perfect match. Seeing the dog(s) you have cared for go to happy families knowing they have found someone to love them is the best reward. For the most part, we hope to have dogs in foster care for only a few weeks.

WHAT OTHER VOLUNTEER HELP IS NEEDED?

Quarantine Care - We also need help in caring for the dogs at our shelter during the 48 hour quarantine time when they arrive. This only takes a few hours over a few days once a month. Come help us feed, care for, and play with the pups during this time.

Events and Adoption Days - Consider helping us get the word out about our rescue. We need help at events being planned (fairs, community events, etc) and at Adoption Days at our shelter location.

Marketing and Advertising - Would you be interested in helping (or assisting) us create a brochure? Organizing and scheduling events?

Transportation - Getting the dogs here from Bradley Airport in Hartford CT can be a challenge. Would you be interested in volunteering to make the drive?

Donations - We can use crates, puppy pens, beddings (old towels bath towels are great), or anything else you may think of. We receive no local, state, or federal funding, our rescue is entirely dependant on contributions and adoption fees to cover it's annual operating budget.

Any talent in any area can help within a rescue, so bring any talents or interests to our attention. Please consider contacting Sandy, our Director of Volunteers by sending email to secondchancesatovolunteers@gmail.com

SUCCESS STORIES

Pictured below is NIKO, our HERO!!!! HE SAVED SCARLET!

Niko is pictured here with his loving family (Richard and Vivian) who was adopted in January. We cannot thank them all enough for what became a survival story for Scarlet, a dog currently on hold for a pending adoption. Their wanting to adopt Niko forced a "trip to the vet" that ended up saving Scarlet from a slow painful death and allowing her to now find her own home here in New England!
